The Eel River Recovery Project is hosting the Eel Zoom II series from October 15 through November 19, a fun way to learn about the Eel River and work to restore its forests, grasslands, watersheds, wildlife and fish.

Thomas Keter has been studying the North Fork Eel River watershed since 1983 and helped with the first Six Rivers National Forest vegetation GIS for the watershed. Speeding North Coast Forest Health Implementation

This Zoom will include a discussion of a Forest Health Management Plan template that was developed by the Eel River Recovery Project and can be used throughout the North Coast. Pat Higgins will make a presentation about accomplishments of the Tenmile Creek Forest Health Pilot Project, which was funded with California Climate Investments money granted by the California Natural Resources Agency, Department of Conservation through the North Coast Resource Partnership. Tim Bailey will address how forest health planning can be strengthened through strategic use of remote sensing and LIDAR. Registered Professional Forester Ken Baldwin, a principal at BBW Forestry, will join a panel and share his insights.

Restoring Native Grasses at a Watershed Scale

Learn about restoring native grasses at a watershed scale from Hugh McGee who coordinates the Mattole River native grass restoration efforts and Dr. Kirsten Hill, the ERRP native grass restoration specialist. Lyn Talkovsky, a landowner who has been working to restore native grasses, will join a panel and share her experiences. This is also part of the NCRP Tenmile Pilot Project.

Restoring Critical Riparian Zones Using Bioengineering

This Zoom Session will be a presentation by Evan Engber, the principal of BioEngineering Associates. He will show how he has transformed eroding banks into flourishing, living riparian zones and talk about exciting work coming up in partnership with ERRP. We'll be working together in Tenmile Creek using the State Water Resources Control Board 319h non-point source pollution abatement grant funds.

Healing Gullies to Reduce Erosion and Help Improve Stream Flow

Teri Jo Barber of Ridge to River and Anna Birkas of Village Ecosystems will team up on this Zoom session. They are currently working on planning and permitting to remediate gully erosion features in the Tenmile Creek watershed under a State Coastal Conservancy Prop 1 grant. They will share a vision of using wood from forest health projects for erosion control and to rebuild watershed hydrology.

Fish Biologist and ERRP Managing Director will be joined by Wiyot Tribe Natural Resource Director Adam Canter to talk about Eel River Fall Chinook Status & Urgent Need to Restore the lower Eel River.
