Fisheries biologist Pat Higgins' account of Chinook salmon runs in fall 2010. Includes information on water quality conditions and toxic algae and recommendations for Eel River ecosystem restoration.

Eel River Water Quality Monitoring Report (1998)
Humboldt County RCD sponsored study of water temperature and aquatic insects from throughout the Eel River basin. Compared temperatures in 1995-1996 with baseline data from 1972. Report by Gary Friedrichsen. Funded by a U.S. EPA 205 J water quality assessment grant.

This manual is from Indiana, but  the information about monitoring is general. It provides good directions for all aspects of conducting a volunteer monitoring program.

Wiyot Tribe  The Wiyot people have always lived around Humboldt Bay and the lower Eel and Mad Rivers, and have used the waters of the bay, rivers, and coast for many purposes. In October 2002 the Wiyot Tribe established a water polution control program under authority of sections 106 and 319 of the federal Clean Water Act.
